As her debut production, Double Occupancy, releases today, Anandita Sundar reflects on her challenging yet exciting journey as a first-time creative producer. Reminiscing about the experience, she said, “My parents (Kushboo and Sundar C) treated this as my learning process, as did I. I knew there was a lot I had to learn, and I tried to be as hands-on as possible.”
In describing the core idea of the film, produced by her mother, Kushboo, under Avni Movies along with Benzz Media, Anandita notes that “It’s a complete fantasy film — about a man who biologically turns into a woman every single day. It’s an exciting, fresh concept. The film has love, friendship, family and grief. There’s so much in the film that people can connect to.”
When asked about what drew her to the project, she adds, “I liked the fact that it had sci-fi and fantasy elements, and yet it was set in a normal world. The actual conflict of the film had to do with the emotions of the four central characters and how their lives get entangled in a mess. It’s an extremely unrelatable story that’s been crafted into a really relatable film.”
The makers of Aswin Kandasamy’s Double Occupancy released a trailer on Sunday. The glimpse comprised the protagonist, played by Santosh, who seems to be navigating two lives in one day without him realising. Morning 6 to evening 6, he is a man, and till the next morning, he is a woman. Chaos unravels on account of his absurd condition. The film is essentially about how he is affected by it and whether he makes out of this crazy cycle.

In theatres today onwards, Double Occupancy also stars ‘Katchi Sera’ fame, Samyuktha Viswanathan, alongside Reshma Venkatesh, Vinoth Kishan and VTV Ganesh, among others. The film has music composed by Sam CS, Santhanakumar Chakravarthy on the camera work and editing by Praveen Anthony.
