In 2016, Nivetha Pethuraj debuted with the film ‘Oru Naal Koothu’, which gained her immense fame and recognition on account of her outstanding acting abilities. Since then, she has been in several Tamil and Telugu films, including Tik Tik Tik (2016), Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020) and Sangathamizhan (2019). However, due to focusing on other affinities, Nivetha created an impression among the audience that she may have retired from the industry. She was also focused on her passion for car racing during this period.
At an event for Sing Geetham (2026), a musical comedy by the 94-year-old Singeetham Srineevasa Rao, Nivetha Pethuraj made an emotional revelation about her career. “In 2023, I decided to quit films,” she said, surprising many fans. The actress also further explained that certain decisions in life had taken her to unexpected places.
“Because of some wrong decisions, life took me to places I never expected,” she shared.
However, fate had different plans for her as she eventually became a part of director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao’s latest project. She had also expressed gratitude to producer Nag Ashwin in giving her another shot in films. “I am thankful to Nag Ashwin for believing in me,” she added. The actress also went on to reveal how close she was to quitting the industry altogether. “If he had not called me for this film, I would probably have gone to the Himalayas,” she remarked. Her heartfelt thoughts have now gone viral on social media.
Despite experiencing countless highs and lows in both personal and professional spheres, she seems to be bracing herself for a new beginning. With Sing Geetam (2026) marking her return to stardom, there seems to be no doubt that Nivetha has an ace in the hole for another promising innings in films. Reports indicate that she will soon be witnessed working on bigger projects in both the Tamil and Telugu industries.
