Releasing today, Maa Inti Bangaram unites Samantha for the second time with ‘Oh! Baby’ (2019) director, Nandini Reddy. Written by Raj Nidimoru and Vasanth Maringati, the film follows the life of a homemaker played by Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who is then forced to reckon with her action-packed past. Releasing in Tamil as Engal Thangam, the film is produced by Samantha and her husband, along with Himank Duvvuru, under their Tralala Moving Pictures banner.

At a pre-release event in Hyderabad, Samantha spoke about the film and her plans, “From now onwards, I want to do at least two films a year. But I can say that Maa Inti Bangaram has come out very well, and it is a very good film.”
Talking about performing the action sequences in the film, the actor said doing them in a saree was the only challenging part. “It is very difficult to do action scenes in a saree, but I should thank designer Pallavi for making it possible,” she said.
Promoting the same film in Chennai, she expressed her desire to return to Tamil cinema in a bigger way. Samantha has a strong history in Tamil cinema through films like Neethane En Ponvasantham (2012), Theri (2016), Kaththi (2014), Super Deluxe (2019) and 24 (2016).
“I wish that I had done more films in Tamil. Definitely, I have the hunger to do good Tamil films. So this is my request to directors: give me good roles.”
In a recent interview, director Nandini Reddy revealed that the film contains shades of Baasha (1995) in it. Reddy explained that the film revolves around a character with a hidden past and the gradual unveiling of that character’s journey. “There is a need for us to live up to societal expectations to be perceived as good people. What if you are not that? Can you get accepted for who you are?” In flipping the ‘Baasha’ format, where you have a classic hero template for a woman, the film poses the questions “How does it change the dynamic?” and “What are the stakes?” If you’re not that pristine kind of woman everyone thought you were, what does it change, and how are you accepted?
Releasing worldwide today, Samantha’s Maa Inti Bangaram also stars Gauthami and Gulshaan Devaiah and has music composed by Santosh Narayanan.
