On 18 June 2026, the producer, Sagar Pentela of Rise East Entertainment, announced a project starring Vijay Sethupathi and directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi. After they collaborated in 2022 on the web series Paper Rocket, this yet-untitled film brings Rise Entertainment and Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi together again for a fresh project. Also produced by Ivy Entertainment, the announcement of the film comes hard on the heels of speculation about the collaboration between the actor and the filmmaker.
In sharing his enthusiasm for being involved in the project, Sagar Pentela described it as a “special film starring the phenomenal Vijay Sethupathi”, as this also marks the first collaboration between Vijay Sethupathi and Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, who is famously known for directing films like Vanakkam Chennai (2013), Kaali (2018), and Kadhalikka Neramillai (2025).
The project has cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa, music by OfRo, and art direction by Selvakumar on the technical front.
“This promises to be an unforgettable cinematic journey,” Sagar Pentela affirmed. Reinstating the producer’s sentiment for the project, Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi wrote, “Equally excited to work with you and this awesome cast and crew.”
The production is reportedly set to commence next week in Pondicherry. The makers are yet to reveal further details about the production, including those pertaining to its genre, story, and additional cast. According to online buzz, however, this project is speculated to be among the most expensive projects in Vijay Sethupathi’s career.
The actor was most recently starring in the Muthu Engira Kaattaan on JioHotstar. He also has multiple projects at various stages of production at hand, including the long-delayed Train with director Mysskin, Nelson and Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road with director Puri Jagannadh, and finally Arasan with Vetri Maaran. On the other hand, this project is Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi’s first film to be announced after last year’s Kadhalikka Neramillai, starring Nithya Menen and Jayam Ravi.
