Students from SMK Methodist ACS Sitiawan made their school proud as they gave a incredible performance at MSSM Sarawak Chess Championship 2026, in Miri, Sarawak, early June.
16-year old Tharvin A/L Shiva Shanmugam, won the Boys Under-18 Individual Champion. Representing Perak state team, Tharvin won the third place in the category.

His victory is a historic milestone as he became the first-ever male chess player from Perak to win the national-level Boys Under-18 Individual title at MSSM Chess Championship.
Team Success for Perak
Another student is Rishikesh Kumar A/L Siva Kumar. He competed in the Boys Under-18 Team Category, he and the Perak squad finished in third place, adding another achievement to the school’s list of success in chess.
The performance by both the students shows the strong chess talent being developed at SMK Methodist ACS Sitiawan and reflects the hard work, discipline and dedication they have shown. Tharvin’s historic achievement, with Rishikesh’s contribution to the team’s podium finish brings pride to not only their school but the state of Perak as well.
Their win is also an inspiration to other young players to continue going for excellence in the sport. The achievement also shows SMK Methodist ACS Sitiawan’s commitment to support students in not only academics but also in co-curricular activities while knowing the individual’s capability of competing successfully at national level.
