Students from a few Johor schools have made the state proud with their achievements at the Borneo International Innovation Creativity Competition (BIICC) 2026.
Held from 19th June to 23rd June 2026, in Sabah, the international competition brought participants from 20 countries through physical and online participation.
The competition is organized by the Malaysian Young Scientist Organisation (MYSO) in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The competition is a platform for young students and innovators to showcase creative ideas and solutions to the real-world problems.
Johor Schools Bring Home Major Awards
Among the top performers are SMK Taman Selesa Jaya, Johor Bahru, which received the Rafflesia Innovator Grand Award, along with USD250 cash prize. The school also won the Best Environmental Award, BIICC Best Innovation Award, three Gold Awards, one Silver Award and one Bronze Award.
Sekolah Tun Fatimah, Johor Bahru, recorded a impressive achievement by winning 9 Gold Awards, two Best Awards and one BIICC Platinum Award. SMK Majidi 2, Johor Bahru also won one Gold Award.
Among those schools, SJKT Ladang Rini, Johor Bahru, won one Gold Award, one Bronze Award, and the Best Innovation Booth Award.
Young Innovators Making Johor Proud
The achievement of the students shows the growing importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), creativity and problem-solving skills in education.
Competitions like BIICC allows young students to explore new ideas, develop useful solutions and present their work to an international audience. This also helps students to build confidence, teamwork, and communication skills while learning from participants from other countries.
The success of the Johor students is hoped to inspire more students to explore science, technology and innovation. With many major awards, and medals brought home from BIICC 2026, the students have shown that young Malaysian innovators have the ability to compete and succeed on an international stage.
