From a young age, he was always enthusiastic about beauty, hairstyling, and helping others feel confident. “My journey was not easy. I built my career from the ground up without any financial support and had to manage almost everything on my own. Limited manpower was another major challenge, especially while growing the business and organising community programmes. As a male makeup artist, gaining recognition in a highly competitive industry also required me to work even harder to earn trust and prove my abilities,” said Pillay.
He also mentioned that balancing business with social services has been challenging. Despite this, he continues his commitment to social service, which has been one of the most meaningful parts of his journey.
Unwavering Passion to A Successful Business
Pillay has stated that turning passion into a successful business is not easy. Beyond just passion, the business idea must be supported by continuous learning, professionalism, and a desire to help the community.
“I have always believed that every skill and experience I gain should not be kept to myself. Whatever I learn through hard work, dedication, and years of experience, I make it a point to share with my students and with anyone eager to learn and grow.”
As someone who is committed to continuous learning, Pillay has expanded his expertise to not only provide beauty services but also to organize training classes for aspiring artists and hairstylists, helping them to build their careers. He believes that integrity, discipline, and the value of continuous learning become even more significant when shared with others.
“My greatest satisfaction comes not only from my own success but from seeing others succeed because of what I have been able to teach and inspire,” said Pillay Asbalan.
Empowering Community through Training Programmes
Pillay emphasized that many talented women possess passion and potential, yet often face a lack of opportunities, confidence, and guidance. This realization prompted him to offer proper support by organizing makeup training, hair-styling workshops, and saree draping classes. Additionally, he conducts skills development programs for single mothers, women, youth, and underprivileged communities.
“Through these programmes, our goal is not only to teach practical skills but also to build confidence, create opportunities, and encourage self-independence. We also conduct sessions with Ashramam students to help them understand and appreciate our cultural heritage through traditional grooming and saree draping, ensuring these values are passed on to the younger generation,” said Pillay.
Pillay takes great pride in witnessing his participants gain confidence, develop new skills, and expand their abilities.

Pillay’s vision is to foster the growth of Pillay’s Hair Studio and expand Pillay’s Group by strengthening its brand within the beauty and hair industry. Pillay and his team are dedicated to continually improving their services, introducing advanced hair styling techniques, offering professional training opportunities, and inspiring the next generation of beauty professionals.
“Beyond our business, we also have an NGO that focuses on community development and creating opportunities for people through various initiatives. We believe in giving back to society by supporting personal growth, skills development, and empowerment,” mentioned Pillay Asbalan
