Six young men lost their lives in a devastating road accident after the car they were travelling in collided with a one-tonne lorry along Jalan Karak Lama heading towards Temerloh, near Klinik Desa Jambu Rias, in the early hours of Saturday.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 4.15am, involving a Toyota Vios carrying six occupants and a Hino one-tonne lorry travelling in the opposite direction. According to Pahang Acting Police Chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob, preliminary investigations indicate that the Toyota Vios was travelling from Kuantan towards Kuala Lumpur when it is believed to have lost control while negotiating a downhill bend.
The vehicle reportedly veered into the opposite lane before crashing head-on into the oncoming lorry. Investigations into the incident are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The six victims, all of whom were trapped inside the badly damaged car, were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health. They have been identified as:
- Mugilan A/L Vraputiran, 25
- Dinesvaran A/L Kumar, 22
- Alaganathan A/L Krishnan, 21
- Kanabati Raja A/L Arunasalam, 19
- Kiishen A/L Sasi Kumar, 17
- Paranthaman A/L Marutayah, 16
The 31-year-old lorry driver, Muhamad Hanafi Ahmad Raju, sustained serious injuries to his legs and body. He was transported to hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohd Salahuddin Isa said the department received an emergency call at 4.24am, prompting firefighters from the Karak Fire and Rescue Station to respond immediately. Additional personnel from the Mentakab Fire and Rescue Station were also deployed to assist with the rescue operation.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the Toyota Vios severely mangled, with all six occupants trapped inside. Rescue personnel used specialised hydraulic rescue equipment, including rescue and combi tools, to extricate the victims before handing their bodies over to the Royal Malaysia Police for further action. The rescue operation was brought under control at 5.57am and concluded at approximately 6.40am.
The bodies of the victims have been taken to Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (HosHAS), Temerloh, for post-mortem examinations. Police are continuing investigations to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic collision. Authorities have also urged motorists to remain cautious, particularly when travelling along winding and downhill stretches of road during the early hours of the morning.
