Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh has stressed that MITRA’s Kalvi MADANI initiative is designed to help Tamil school students in our nation master their 3M skills: Membaca (reading), Menulis (writing), and Mengira (arithmetic).

Kalvi MADANI, which began in early July 2026, is a program that invites tuition centers to participate in offering free tuition classes for Tamil school students. Approximately RM8 million has been allocated from MITRA for the Kalvi MADANI program, which will be implemented nationwide.

This funding will support teacher allowances and provide bags and stationery for the students. Additionally, since the tuition classes will be held after school hours, the allocation will also cover food for the students.

The Kalvi MADANI tuition classes are targeted at B40 students who are struggling with basic skills in primary school. The Deputy Education Minister believes that this program will help students quickly master these essential skills, especially the 3M skills.

A total of 10,410 students from 315 Tamil schools have been selected to participate in the Kalvi MADANI initiative. Wong Kah Woh emphasized that this program is just beginning, and they will monitor its impact on the students.

In the future, there will be further discussions between the Education Ministry and MITRA about expanding the program to include more schools and students. As this initiative has only just started, it will take time to see its progress and impact.
