Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has made a significant announcement regarding his commitment to addressing the issues faced by the Indian community in Malaysia. This declaration was made during an event held on July 29, 2026, in Negeri Sembilan.
In his speech, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed that he had previously assigned Dato’ Sri R. Ramanan to oversee the concerns of the Indian community. However, effective immediately, he will take direct responsibility not just for the MITRA but for all related issues affecting this community.
He acknowledged Human Resources Minister’s ongoing efforts, confirming that Dato’ Sri R. Ramanan will continue to execute the tasks and programs that have already been established. However, the Prime Minister assured that he would ensure these issues receive the attention they require and will work closely with Dato’ Sri Ramanan and the community to facilitate progress and support.
Furthermore, Anwar explained that this new approach aims to enhance the coordination of policies designed for the Indian community. He highlighted the importance of financial support initiatives, mentioning specific organizations such as Tekun Nasional and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, as well as financing guarantee schemes and various economic development and welfare programs tailored for the community’s needs.
In a moment of transparency and humility, Anwar addressed a previous statement where he used the term “kuil haram” (illegal temples) while discussing issues related to temples. He publicly apologized for this choice of words, recognizing it as a mistake.
He reinforced his accountability by acknowledging, “If I have referred to a temple as illegal, I must extend my sincere apology. I accept my mistake,” he concluded, reflecting his commitment to maintaining the respect and dignity of all religious sites in the country.
