Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M.Thinaah finished as runners up at Taipei Open after losing to Japan’s Sumire Nakade and Miyu Takahashi in the finals.
The world No.5 pair who entered the BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament as the top seeds were beaten with 21-16, 21-18 in straight games by the lower-ranked Japanese duo. The match lasted 40 minutes at the Taipei Arena in Taiwan.
The defeat means Malaysia is still waiting for it’s first women’s doubles title at the Taipei Open which has been held for the past 40 years.
Despite reaching the finals, Pearly and Thinaah were unable to end the country’s long wait for the championship. The Taipei Open final was another strong showing for the national pair, who have been working to regain their best form after returning from injury earlier this year.
So far in 2026, Pearly and Thinaah won one title, lifting the Indonesia Masters crown in January. Although they lost in Taipei, the runners-up finish gives the Malaysian pair another positive results as they continue preparing for the upcoming tournaments on the BWF.
