A settlement issue that affected families in Sungkai and Kuala Bikam, Perak for more than 40 years has been resolved with 120 families receiving land grants.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the land grants would provide greater security for the families and future generations. He said the move also showed the Madani Government’s commitment to supporting Malaysians regardless of race or social background.
The grants were presented during a dinner organized by DAP Sungkai state consistency division, which has over 1,200 guest from different communities. Nga also thanked Sungai assemblyman Datuk A. Sivanesan, who is also the state Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration Committee chairman, as well as the civil servants involved in resolving the long-standing issues.
More Support for the Indian Community
Nga said the government has also introduced a few initiatives to support the Indian community. These includes RM20 million for Indian settlements and RM50 million for Tamil vernacular schools (SJKTs).
The allocation for the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has also increased to RM150 million. According to Nga, these efforts are part of the government’s aim to build a more inclusive and fair Malaysia where communities are not left behind in the country’s development.
Also presented at the DAP Sungkai 60th Anniversary dinner were Ipoh Timur MP Howard Lee Chuan How, Buntong assemblyman M.Thulsi, Malim Nawar assemblyman V. Bavani, Astaka assemblyman Jason Ng Thien Yong and other local community leaders.
