An 11-year-old girl for Ludhiana, Punjab has turned her childhood passion for hula hooping into a Guinness World Records achievement, proving that dedication and determination can turn even an unusual hobby into something extraordinary.
Praneet Kaur, made her mark on March 24, 2026, when she successfully broke the Guinness Word Records title for the ‘Most Hula Hoop Rotations on a Hair Bun in 30 seconds.’ During the record attempt in Ludhiana, Praneet completed an impressive 86 rotations of a hula hoop around her hair bun within 30 seconds.
Her achievement surpassed the previous record of 61 rotations, set by Vaishnavi Shree R. of India in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in December 2023.
From a Childhood Hobby to a World Record
The achievement is particularly remarkable considering Praneet’s journey began when she was only seven years old. Praneet first developed an interest in hula hooping after watching videos of the activity online. She subsequently joined virtual classes, where she began learning basic techniques such as rotating the hoop around her waist and hands.
As her skills improved, she gradually challenges herself with more difficult tasks. She also joined a gymnastics class at her school, giving her an opportunity to further develop her coordination, balance and control. Her talent eventually caught the attention of her gymnastics teacher, who encouraged her to attempt a Guinness World Records title.
That encouragement became an important turning point for Praneet, motivating her to take her ability more seriously and work towards a world record. For Praneet, hula hooping is more than just a hobby. She describes it as an activity that is fun, energetic and challenging, while requiring focus, balance and coordination.
Beating the Previous Record
Praneet’s successful attempt saw her complete 86 rotations in 30 seconds, beating the previous record of 61 by 25 rotations. The previous record was held by fellow Indian Vaishnavi Shree R., who achieved 61 rotations in Chennai on December 13, 2023.
Praneet’s achievement therefore adds another unique record to India’s growing list of Guinness World Records accomplishments. But reaching the record was not an overnight success.
According to Praneet, she had been working towards her dream for around three to four years. Along the way, she also experienced failure, but chose to use those setbacks as motivation to continue improving.
A Dream That Finally Came True
For Praneet, receiving confirmation from Guinness World Records was an emotional moment.
After receiving the email confirming that she had successfully broken the record, she said she cried because she could hardly believe that the dream she had carried since childhood had finally become a reality. At just 11 years old, Praneet had achieved something she had been working towards since the age of seven.
Her story also highlights the important role played by the people around young talents. With encouragement from her family and teacher, a childhood interest became an opportunity for Praneet to challenge herself on a global platform.
Her Next Goal Is Already Set
Despite already becoming a Guinness World Records title holder, Praneet is not stopping there.
Her next ambition is to attempt the record for the most hula hoop rotations on a hair bun in one minute. The current record stands at 153 rotations, achieved by Jaimini Prashant Soni of India on December 1, 2023.
Praneet hopes to take on the challenge with the same dedication and hard work that helped her achieve her first record. Beyond her own achievements, she also hopes her journey will encourage other children to pursue their dreams.
Praneet has even written a book about her experience, sharing her journey of attempting to break a Guinness World Records title, the challenges she faced and the sense of pride she felt after finally succeeding. Her message to other young people is simple; dreams may take time, and setbacks may happen along the way, but failure should not be a reason to give up.
