Shruti Haasan has publicly endorsed her father Kamal Haasan’s recent takes urging people to rely more on human conversations than artificial intelligence, as the veteran actor spoke about AI’s environmental impact during a college event in Tamil Nadu.
In speaking to students at the Nayagan Fest, Kamal cautioned against excessive dependence on AI tools, claiming that every query processed by platforms such as ChatGPT consumes significant resources. Emphasising the environmental cost, he remarked that each question asked of ChatGPT effectively results in “a tumbler of water” being used and requires substantial electricity for processing.
Encouraging students to use AI only when necessary, Kamal added that they should instead turn to the people around them for answers. “Ask only the necessary questions. Otherwise, ask the friend next door. There are probably a few people who know more than it does,” he said, adding with humour that, unlike ChatGPT, he does not know everything and has no hesitation in admitting when he doesn’t know something.
Shruti had appeared to mirror the sentiment, reposting a clip of her father’s speech on her Instagram Stories with a “100” emoji. She also shared a post highlighting discussions around AI’s water consumption, alongside another video celebrating human talent over AI-generated content with the caption, “Follow if you still value skill. Over AI.”
On the work front, Kamal was last seen in Thug Life. He will next be seen in films directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and the stunt duo Anbariv. On the other hand, Shruti was recently witnessed in a cameo appearance in the ‘Hellallallo’ song from Ram Charan-Janhvi Kapoor’s Peddi. Coming up next, she has the long-delayed Train, co-starring Vijay Sethupathi and helmed by Mysskin, awaiting release in Tamil. In Telugu, she will be seen sharing the screen with Dulquer Salmaan in Pavan Sadineni’s Aakasamlo Oka Tara.
