Starring Lokesh Kanagaraj, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, and an ensemble cast, DC was released worldwide on August 7, 2026. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the film delivers a gripping blend of action, emotion, and character-driven storytelling, elevated further by the music of none other than the Rockstar of Tamil cinema, Anirudh Ravichander.

For its two-and-a-half-hour runtime, DC pulls audiences completely into its world. Every frame, dialogue, action sequence, and musical cue works together to create an experience that makes you forget the reality outside the theatre.

Every Frame Tells a Story

Arun Matheswaran, the filmmaker behind Saani Kaayidham and Captain Miller, returns with another intense and visually striking film. While DC is packed with action, Arun does not allow the spectacle to overshadow the storytelling. Instead, he carefully places subtle details throughout the film, leaving audiences with questions long after a scene ends.

The backstories of the characters are not always explained in detail. Instead, small hints and carefully placed frames allow audiences to piece together their pasts and understand the people they have become.

Arun’s vision is brought beautifully to life by cinematographer Mukesh G and editor Prasanna GK. Some of the film’s strongest moments are the ones that speak without dialogue. The framing, movement, and editing allow the visuals themselves to carry the story.

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Fresh Start as an Actor

The name Lokesh Kanagaraj has been deeply associated with some of Tamil cinema’s most talked-about films since Kaithi. But with DC, audiences get to see a different side of him; the actor.

As Devadas, Lokesh makes a surprisingly strong impression. His screen presence carries weight, while his action sequences add another layer to the character. His performance, particularly during the intense moments, makes it easy to forget that this is his first major acting role. His physicality and execution during the action sequences are especially noticeable, giving action lovers plenty to cheer for.

Lokesh may be known primarily as a filmmaker, but DC proves that there is another side to his cinematic identity worth watching.

Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra: Innocence with a Dangerous Edge

Wamiqa Gabbi brings Chandra to life with a performance that beautifully balances innocence, vulnerability, and danger.

As a woman deeply in love, Chandra is willing to go to extreme lengths to protect the person she loves. But her character is not simply defined by love. She also represents the need for security and trust within a relationship.

Wamiqa captures these contrasting emotions effortlessly. Her innocent appearance against Chandra’s more dangerous side creates one of the film’s most intriguing character dynamics.

Every Character Leaves a Mark

While Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi take the spotlight, the supporting cast also deserves recognition.

Sanjana Krishnamoorthy as Parvathy, Avinash Raghudevan as Kitty, Srikrishna Dayal as Bhojraj, and the rest of the cast contribute meaningfully to the world of DC. Each character feels connected to the larger story, and their interactions with Devadas add depth to his journey.

The chemistry between the characters is one of the film’s strengths, reflecting the thought that went into the casting.

One Word for Anirudh’s Music: Madness

If there is one word to describe Anirudh Ravichander’s work in DC, it is madness.

Once again, Anirudh proves why he has earned the title of Rockstar. The album and background score do not merely accompany the film; they become part of the experience.

“Raga of Revenge” had already captured the attention of music lovers even before the full album arrived. Once the complete album was released, the anticipation turned into excitement as each track brought its own identity to the film.

The background score, in particular, amplifies the intensity of the action sequences and emotional moments, making certain scenes hit even harder. Anirudh’s music does not sit in the background; it demands attention.

A Gun That Takes Lives, A Plastic Rose That Stays Lifeless

DC brings together violence and vulnerability, action and emotion, brutality and love.

The story of a gun that takes lives and a plastic rose that remains lifeless may sound like an unusual description, but it captures the contrasting world of DC; a world where destruction and love exist side by side.

With Arun Matheswaran’s distinctive visual storytelling, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s impressive acting debut, Wamiqa Gabbi’s layered performance and Anirudh Ravichander’s electrifying music, DC delivers an experience that stays with the audience even after the credits roll.
