KTMB Adds Nearly 39,000 Seats for National Day and School Holiday Travel

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is adding 124 extra train services with 38,944 seats for the higher travel demand during the upcoming National Day celebrations and school holidays.

KTMB said 100 additional Electric Train Service (ETS) trips, offering 31,600 seats will operate 10 days. The additional services are scheduled for 21st- 23rd August, 28th- 31st August and 4th-6th September.

Another 24 EMU Plus services will also operate on selected dates between 21st August and 6th September, giving an additional 7,344 seats. The service will also be extended to Bandar Tasik Selatan, giving passengers more travel options during holiday period.

For passengers travelling in the northern region, KTMB will add 8 KTM Komuter services along the Padang Besar-Butterworth-Padang Besar route from 27th-31st August. This will bring the total number of daily services on the route to 46. Tickets for the additional services went on sale on 13th August through KTMB’s official sales channels.

The announcement comes at KTMB celebrates the 16th anniversary of it’s ETS service, which was introduced on 12th August 2010. Specially for the occasion, customer appreciation activities were held from 10th-14th August, with vouchers, KFC meals, free travel tickets and RM16 discounts offered to passengers.

KTMB Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri said ETS started with the Ipoh route in 2010 before expanding to Butterworth and Padang Besar in 2015. The network was later extended southwards at the end of 2025.

Since it’s introduction, ETS has recorded 44.3 million passengers. From January to July 2026, passenger numbers reached 3.67 million, a 56% increase from 2.36 million during the same period last year. 

KTMB said the additional services are part of it’s efforts to increase capacity and provide passengers with more comfortable and convenient travel options during busy holiday periods.
