There are some films that impress you with a huge story, action scenes or unexpected twists. Then there are films that simply make you feel good. Vishwanath & Sons belongs to the second one, and perhaps that is exactly why it works so well.
Written and directed by Venky Atluri, Vishwanath & Sons was released in cinemas worldwide on 14th August 2026. The romantic family drama stars Suriya and Mamitha Baiju in lead roles, alongside Raadhika Sarathkumar, Raveena Tandon, Sunil Reddy and few others. The film’s music is composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar.
The story is about Sanjay Vishwanath (Sanju), an accomplished international shooter in his 40s whose life takes a unexpected turn. His journey brought him closer to Maddy, a cheerful young woman in her 20s. What follows is a unusual romance mixed with family, emotions, humor, and questions about whether age should really decide who we are allowed to love.
Without giving too much away, here are some of the biggest reasons why Vishwanath & Sons worked well.
1) Suriya Reminds Us Why We Fell in Love with the Romantic Hero in Him
It has been a while since we got to see this Suriya. Over the years, we have seen him taking intense characters, heavy action stories and emotionally demanding roles. Vishwanath & Sons, however, brings back the charming and romantic Suriya many audience grew up loving, except this time, he is older, calmer, and more mature.
Suriya plays the role of Sanjay (Sanju) as a man in his 40s, and the film does not try to hide his age or make him behave like a much younger hero. That is one of the best things about his performance. He allows Sanju to be mature while still giving him the charm and playfulness that have always worked so naturally for Suriya.

His expressions do a lot of the work. Whether Sanju is having feelings, dealing with his family, being unintentionally funny or going through an emotional moment, Suriya makes the character easy to connect with. There is also something nostalgic about watching him in a romance again. His smile, timing and screen presence remind you of the Suriya who made audience fall in love with him years ago.
But Vishwanath & Sons does not simply recreate the younger romantic hero we remember. Instead, it gives us a grown-up version of him and somehow that makes Sanju even more lovable.
2) Mamitha Baiju Was Simply Made to Be Maddy
Mamitha Baiju is easel of the biggest strengths of the film. She plays the role of Maddy, a young woman in her 20s who is extroverted, funny, cheerful and completely comfortable being herself. Mamitha brings so much natural energy to the character that we can’t seem to think of another actress who could have played this role perfectly.
There is nothing forced about her performance. Her humour feels natural, her expressions are effortless and even Maddy’s little reactions add life to the scenes. Mamitha has already shown through her previous films that she can carry different kinds of characters, and Maddy gives another space to show how comfortable she is on screen.

Most importantly, she does not allow Maddy to simply become “the younger woman” in an age-gap romance. She gives her a personality of her own. Maddy knows what she wants and is not afraid to express it.
Her chemistry with Suriya is one of the film’s biggest surprises. Despite the age difference between their characters being an important part of the story, their scenes together never feels uncomfortable. Their completely different personalities actually make their relationship more entertaining to watch.
3) A Feel-Good Story We Did Not Know We Needed
Lately we’ve not had enough simple feel good film. Its mostly filled with violence, revenge, crime, and dark themes. There is absolutely a place for those films, but sometimes you just want to sit inside a cinema for a few hours, laugh, feel something and walk out happy.
Vishwanath & Sons gives that. There’s no unnecessary heavy storyline. The film does not depend on constant shouting, violence or shocking subjects to hold your attention. Instead, it finds it’s strength in relationships, family, romance, humour and emotion.

There are scenes that make you laugh, scenes that are heart touching, and many small moments that leave you smiling. Even the comedy is handled well. It does not feel like jokes are added just because the film needed a comedy track.
At the same time, all the warmth is an interesting idea, a romance between two adults with a significant age difference. Age-gap relationships are still something that isn’t normalised, especially when the difference is as noticeable as it is between Sanju and Maddy. The film does not pretend that those questions do not exist. Instead it just lets the relationship to develop while asking audiences to look beyond a number.

Love is not always going to be between two people of the same age, background or financial position. What matter sis whether the two understand each other, respect one another and is mature enough to know what they want. Vishwanath & Sons does not force you to agree with it, it just shows another way of looking at love.
4) The Supporting Cast, Comedy and Music Complete the Film
While Suriya and Mamitha are at the centre of Vishwanath & Sons, the supporting characters are just as important in making the film enjoyable.
Especially Raadhika Sarathkumar, instead of playing the emotional mother who is constantly worried about her son, she plays the role of Nirmala, whose character is funny, lively, and entertaining. Her expressions, reactions and conversations with Mamitha and Suriya bring some of the most enjoyable moments of the film. Se carries the warmth of a mother but the character is written with humour and personality.
Other supporting characters such as Nassar and Sunil Reddy also makes the film entertaining. The film knows how to use it’s supporting cast without taking attention away from the main story. Together they make family portions feel lively.

And then there is G.V. Prakash Kumar’s music, beautifully completes the films mood. The songs are light, romantic and pleasant. Tracks such as Pattampoochi carries the sweetness of Maddy’s love for Sanjay, while background score adds to the emotional and fun moments.
Vishwanath & Sons does not need a complicated story to leave an impression. The biggest strength is actually the simplicity. It gives us family, laugher, romance, and emotion while allowing Suriya to return to a side of himself that audiences have missed seeing on screen. Mamitha Baiju brings the perfect amount of youth and energy opposite him. And together they make an unusual pairing easy to root for.
Not every film needs to leave you analyzing different twists on your way home. Some films reminds you why sitting in a cinema, laughing and watching a sweet story will leave a lovely experience.
