In a significant moment of pride, Sri Dasmesh Pipes and Drums has made the country proud after securing 7th place in Grade 4A at the 2026 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. The achievement marks another significant milestone for the Malaysian band, which has consistently proven its ability to compete alongside some of the world’s best.
What is the World Pipe Band Championship?
The World Pipe Band Championships is one of the most prestigious competitions in the pipe band world, bringing together leading pipe bands from different countries to compete in piping and drumming. Held in Glasgow, Scotland, the championship is considered one of the biggest stages for pipe band music and attracts bands across various grades.
Sri Dasmesh’s Journey to 7th Place
The 2026 championship marked Sri Dasmesh band’s fourth appearance at the World Pipe Band Championships, and the team has successfully qualified for the final on every occasion. The band first made history in 2019 when it became the Grade 4B World Champion, making Sri Dasmesh the first Asian pipe band to win a World Pipe Band Championship title.
Seven years later, the Malaysian band returned to compete at the higher Grade 4A level and once again secured a place in the final and ultimately finishing 7th in the world. The achievement came after an impressive performance at the Perth Highland Games just one week before the World Championships. Sri Dasmesh secured first place in piping, ensemble and drumming, as well as 1st Overall.
Sri Dasmesh was also the only Asian band competing at the 2026 World Pipe Band Championships, proudly carrying the Jalur Gemilang at Glasgow Green.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo also congratulated Sri Dasmesh Pipes and Drums for the achievement, recognising the team for bringing pride to Malaysia on the international stage.
The band’s success is a reflection of years of training, commitment and sacrifice from its members, who balance their passion for pipe band music with school, university, careers and family.
Sri Dasmesh’s latest achievement continues its remarkable journey, from becoming world champions in 2019 to finishing seventh in a higher grade in 2026, proving that a Malaysian team can stand among the best in the world.
