The construction of a new temple for the Dewi Sri Maha Mariamman Association of Sengkang received a boost with an allocation of RM248,560 from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching shared the update after visiting the site to review the progress of the temple’s construction. The RM248,560 allocation was given through KPKT’s Non-Islamic Houses of Worship Maintenance Initiative (RIBI) to support the construction project. During the visit, she also gave a mock cheque representing the allocation to the temple.

Apart from the KPKT funding, the Kulai Parliamentary Service Centre also provided financial support to the temple over the past few years.

Since 2023, a total of RM18,000 in parliamentary allocations has been given towards the temple’s needs. This included RM10,000 in 2023, RM5,000 in 2024 and RM3,000 this year.

Teo said the continued assistance reflected the Kulai Parliamentary Service Centre’s support for the local Indian community and the development of the house of worship.

As part of the visit, 20 set of food baskets were given to the families living around Sengkang area. Teo expressed hope that the rest of the construction would progress smoothly and that the new Sri Maha Mariamman temple would be fully completed for the benefit of the Hindu community in Sengkang.
