Silambam was among the events that delivered several memorable moments for Selangor at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) with the host contingent celebrating two gold medals and a bronze at the MBSJ Stadium in Serdang Jaya.
Sasmita A.Ravi won gold in the women’s individual silambam thanithiramai kuthu varisai event after recording 10.9 points.
Throughout the performance, Sasmita showed strong focus and control, keeping her movement sharp and neat until the end. Her performance earned her first palace and added another gold medal to Selangor’s overall tally.
Selangor also celebrated gold in the men’s category through Preteish Anbuchelvan. He topped the men’s individual silambam thanithiramai kuthu varisai event with 11.400 points, the highest score in the competition.
The victories by Sasmita and Preteish meant that Selangor has a clean sweep of the gold medals in both the men’s and women’s individual categories of the event.
Kiranjenifeer Takes Bronze in Close Contest
Meanwhile, Selangor’s Kiranjenifeer Danchil won a bronze medal in the women’s individual silambam thanithiramai stick event.
She finished with 8.467 points, just 0.233 points behind Perak, who won silver with 8.700 points. Penang claimed the gold medal with 8.703 points. The small difference between all three scores showed just how close the competition was with only 0.236 points separating gold and bronze.
Sarveshaa Finishes Sixth after Stick Slips
There was also a challenging moment for Selangor’s Sarveshaa Murali in the men’s individual silambam thanithiramai stick event.
During his routine, the silambam sticked slipped, affecting his performance and his hopes. Despite the setbacks, Sarveshaa continued his routine until the end. He finished sixth with 8.60 points. The Federal Territories won gold with 9.37 points while Kedah and Terangganu won silver and bronze respectively.
The results marked a strong showing for Selangor in silambam, with it’s athletes contributing important medals while showcasing the traditional martial art of the SUKMA stage.
