AirAsia has issues a travel advisory for passengers flying during Malaysia’s 69th National Day week, reminding travellers to plan ahead as airports are expected to be busier during the long weekend.

There will also be a temporary closure of airspace within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area for National Day rehearsals and the flypast in Putrajaya. The airspace will be closed from 11AM to 12PM from 26th to 28th August and from 8:45AM to 9:45AM on 29th and 31st August.

Passengers may experience longer queues at check-in counters, security and immigration checkpoints. Here are some important travel tips from AirAsia:

  • Check flight update: Passengers are encouraged to use the AirAsia MOVE app and check the ‘Flight Status’ section for latest updates.
  • Arrive at the airport early: Travellers should arrive at least 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. Check-in counters at KLIA Terminal 2 close one hour before departure while counters at other Malaysian airports close 45 minutes before domestic departures.
  • Use self-service facilities: after checking in online, passengers can use airport kiosks to print baggage tags before heading to self-bag drop counters. Baggage allowance can also be added or increased up to 4 hours before departure through AirAsia MOVE.

  • Check international travel requirements: Travellers should make sure they meet the visa and entry requirements of their destination and any countries they transit through. AirAsia’s Auto Visa Check can verify many visas or Electronic Travel Authorisations during online check-in, from 14 days until one hour before departure.
  • Know who can use counter check-in: Counter check-in will only be available for passengers with reduced mobility, those traveling with infants under 24 months, pregnant passengers, senior citizens and young passengers travelling alone.
  • Take note of pregnancy requirements: Pregnant passengers must complete the required form before boarding. Those who are more than 27 weeks pregnant must also provide an approved medical certificate.

  • Book wheelchair assistance early: passengers who require Special Assistance should arrange the service when booking or through AirAsia MOVE at least four hours before departure.
  • Use MyNIISe for immigration: Malaysian passport holders are encouraged to use the MyNIISe app for faster immigration clearance at KLIA Terminal 2 through dedicated QR Code and facial recognition lanes.
  • Use an e-Boarding Pass: AirAsia MOVE’s e-Boarding Pass can be used at airports across Malaysia and many international airports, although some airports may still require a printed boarding pass for verification.
  • Check Cabin baggage limits: Each passenger may carry 1 cabin bag measuring no more than 56 x 36 x 23CM, together with one laptop, handbag or small bag. The combined weight must no exceed 7KG.
