The government will increase it’s allocation for school maintenance across all school types from RM1 billion to RM1.5 billion in 2027. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The additional RM500 million represents a 50% increase compared to the current allocation and will be used to improve and maintain school facilities in Malaysia.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the allocation will not be limited to one school stream. It will cover national schools (SK), Chinese national-type schools (SJKC), Tamil national-type schools (SJKT, religious schools, tahfiz institutions, pondok schools, and special education
“Everyone is guaranteed to receive additional allocation,” he said during his National Day Prime Address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
The announcement is expected to help schools address maintenance and infrastructure issues that can affect the daily learning environment of students.
School Repair Needs to be Identified Earlier
Apart from increasing the allocation, the Ministry of Education (MOE) will start visiting every district starting September to review applications involving school infrastructure repairs. According to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, this move will let the government to identify schools that needs repair works much earlier instead of waiting to address the problems in 2027.
The district level effort will also give the ministry a clearer picture of the condition and needs of schools in different areas. With allocation rising to RM1.5 billion, the government looks to provide additional support across Malaysia’s different education streams while ensuring schools in need of repairs are seen and attended earlier.
