Four young Malaysian hockey players are set to make their mark on the international stage after earning a place in the national junior men’s team for the Junior Asia Hockey Championship in Moqi, China.
The four youngsters, Karthikesan Shivamoorthy, Eswaran George, Dheeressh Gunaseelan and Gagandeep Singh Aphthar Singh are among the players selected to represent Malaysia as the national junior squad prepares to take on some of Asia’s best young hockey talents.
Their inclusion is a proud moment not only for the players and their families, but also for the local hockey community that continues to nurture young talents and provide them with opportunities to compete at a higher level.
The Malaysian junior men’s team will begin their campaign against Kazakhstan on September 5, 2026, with the players currently in Moqi, China, undergoing final preparations ahead of the tournament.
For the four youngsters, the championship will be an important opportunity to gain valuable international experience and showcase their abilities on a bigger stage. Representing the national team at such a young age is also a significant milestone in their developing hockey careers.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian junior women’s team has also arrived in Moqi, China, as both national squads step up their preparations for the championship. With both teams now on the ground, the Malaysian contingent is focused on completing their final preparations, building team chemistry and getting ready for the challenges ahead.
The participation of Karthikesan, Eswaran, Dheeressh and Gagandeep also serves as an encouraging reminder of the growing pool of young hockey talent in Malaysia. Their journey from the grassroots level to wearing the national colours is one that many young aspiring players can look up to.
