A;irAsia has cancelled and rescheduled a number of flights to and from Jakarta following the continued eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in Indonesia’s Sunda Strait. The eruption has produced extensive volcanic ash clouds, creating safety concerns for aircraft operating near affected airspace. AirAsia said selected services have also undergone operational adjustments where flight paths could potentially be affected by the ash.
The disruption comes after volcanic ash forced the temporary suspension of operations at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Indonesian authorities said the airport closure affected hundreds of flights, with 209 flight movements involving around 22,800 passengers disrupted. Ash clouds were reported at altitudes of up to 50,000 feet, affecting parts of Java, Sumatra and surrounding areas.
AirAsia said the safety of passengers and crew remains its priority and that affected passengers have been notified of their flight status and available recovery options. The airline is working to place affected travellers on the next available flights once conditions allow. As the situation remains fluid, passengers travelling to or from Jakarta are advised to check their latest flight status before heading to the airport.

Authorities are continuing to monitor Mount Anak Krakatau and its impact on airspace. The eruption has also disrupted other activities in affected areas, including school programmes and fishing, while residents have been advised to take precautions against volcanic ash.
