Actor Karthi is currently in Hyderabad to promote his upcoming film Sardar 2. The film is a sequel to Sardar, with PS Mithran returning as the director and Lakshman Kumar producing it under his Prince Pictures banner. Ashika Ranganath and Malavika Mohanan are the two female leads in the film, which is set to hit the screens on September 10.
Karthi reminisced about the impact Sardar had. “There is a huge fan base for the Sardar film. Sardar is for me, like how Indian is for Kamal Haasan. Sardar 2 is a very important film in my career and I am lucky that I got to work in a spy film like this one,” said Karthi. He noted that he has experimented with different kinds of films over the last three years and is now coming up with Sardar 2, a spy film.
The actor appealed to everyone to watch the first Sardar before watching the sequel. “I appeal to everyone, please watch the Sardar film, which you can watch for free on YouTube, then come to watch this Sardar 2, so that you will connect more,” said Karthi.
The actor also made comparisons of Sardar 2 with Hollywood films. “When I watch English films, one thing comes to my mind: can’t we make these kind of action films here? With this Sardar 2, I am fully satisfied that we can make an action film like them. Director Mithran has come out with a strong script, the music and the action is going to be the next level in this film,” said the actor.
Talking about the two female actors, Ashika Ranganath and Malavika Mohanan, Karthi said that the film showcases their strength and action skills. “They are not for the dance, they did complete action and you can see the girl power in this film,” said Karthi.
He also spoke about SJ Suryah, who plays the antagonist. “In this film, he is completely different and one can enjoy his performance,” said Karthi.
The actor unveiled that Sardar 2 is also a special film for music director Sam CS, as it marks his 100th film. “He gave fantastic music for this film after our earlier one Khaidi,” he added.
People often ask Karthi about his Telugu debut, and the actor revealed that he is currently doing two Telugu films. “I am acting in HIT 4, directed by Sailesh Kolanu. Before that, I am working with director Kalyan for a Telugu film, which I am enjoying a lot while shooting for this film. After Awara (Paiyaa), which I enjoyed a lot, this film with Kalyan, there is a lot of fun shooting,” said the actor.
