SJKT Merlimau is set to receive two additional classrooms as part of the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) efforts to prepare schools for increasing student enrolment and reduce overcrowding.
The project is being carried out under the IBS Perdana Year 1 2027 initiative in Melaka, which will see a total of 7 new classrooms built across two schools. Of these, 5 classrooms will be constructed at SK Taman Merdeka, while another two classrooms will be added to SJKT Merlimau.
According to MOE, the 7 classrooms will be able to accommodate a total of 245 students by the start of the 2027 school session.
Creating More Space for Students
The additional classrooms are part of MOE’s continue efforts to address the rise in student enrolment and the number of students sharing existing classroom spaces. Beyond providing more room, the ministry said the project is also aimed at creating a safe, comfortable, and conductive learning environment for students and the wider school community.
The initiative is being carried out in line with the goals outlined under the Malaysia Education Plan 2026-2035. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh recently visited both SK Taman Merdeka and SJKT Merlimau to inspect the progress of the projects.
IBS To Help Speed Up Construction
The new classrooms are being built using the Industrialised Building System (IBS). Compared with conventional construction methods, the use of IBS is expected to shorten the construction period. This will help ensure that the additional classrooms are completed and ready for students according to the planned schedule.
For SJKT Merlimau, the 2 additional classrooms will provide much-needed space as the school prepares for the upcoming academic year. Together with the 5 classrooms at SK Taman Merdeka, the project is another step to make sure schools have enough facilities to support the needs of students ahead of the 2027 school session.
