Malaysia’s Kabaddi teams are set for a busy international campaign, with the men’s team preparing to compete at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 in Japan before making a historic debut at the Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship 2026 in Ahmedabad, India.
20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026
The Malaysian men’s team is currently undergoing its final phase of centralised training under the National Sports Council (MSN) ahead of the Asian Games. Training will continue until September 16, with the team scheduled to depart Malaysia on the morning of September 17 and travel to Japan via Hong Kong.
Team Manager ASP Loganathan leads the team, while National Coaches Vimal and Praba oversee the players’ technical preparation, tactical development, fitness, and final selection. The final list of players for the Asian Games will be announced after the completion of the selection process.
Malaysia’s Asian Games campaign is scheduled to run until September 26, before the men’s team turns its attention to another major international challenge in October.
Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship 2026
For the first time, Malaysia will participate in the Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship, with both the men’s and women’s teams set to represent the country at the inaugural championship in Ahmedabad from October 21 to October 31, 2026.
The men’s team will enter the Commonwealth championship following their Asian Games campaign, giving the players an opportunity to bring their international experience from Japan into the competition in India. Meanwhile, the women’s team will begin centralised training next week as they prepare for their historic international appearance.
The dual international campaigns mark another step forward for Malaysian Kabaddi, providing athletes with greater exposure to high-level competition while strengthening the development of both the men’s and women’s teams. With Malaysia set to compete on two international stages within a short period, the campaigns represent an important opportunity for the sport to gain greater recognition and build towards a stronger future.
