Tamil-Swiss artist Priya Ragu returns with “FINALLY”, a contagious new single that opens the door to an exciting new chapter. Bright, upbeat and full of movement, the track witnesses Ragu embracing a more playful, open side of her artistry while continuing to draw on the South Asian sounds that shaped her childhood alongside the contemporary R&B, hip-hop, electronica and pop that have become central to her distinctive sound.
It is her first new music since 2023’s acclaimed Santhosam, the album that established Ragu as one of alternative R&B’s most adventurous voices. Rather than simply returning to familiar territory, “FINALLY” feels like a progression — warmer, freer and more confident, reflecting an artist increasingly comfortable in the space she has created for herself.
That sense of creative freedom runs throughout Ragu’s forthcoming album Madras, due later this year. Born to parents who fled the Sri Lankan civil war and raised in Switzerland, Ragu grew up between cultures, with traditional Tamil music at home and hip-hop and R&B becoming an important part of her identity from an early age. Those influences have never existed separately in her music; instead, they meet in a sound that refuses easy categorisation.
Developed closely with her brother, producer and co-writer Japhna Gold, Madras was written in Goa and recorded in Chennai, a place deeply connected to Ragu’s childhood and sense of self. Where Santhosam explored the search for happiness and inner purpose, the new record is about living with what she has learned — embracing authenticity, patience and connection.
With “FINALLY”, Ragu offers the first glimpse of a record rooted in heritage but driven by instinct. The result is an artist who sounds less interested than ever in fitting into an existing category and more determined to define her own — carrying the colours, rhythms and stories of her world with her as she continues to build a musical bridge between both sides of the map.
