More than 5,700 Indian entrepreneurs across Malaysia have benefited from RM140 million in financing approved under the Modal Usahawan dan Rancangan Ekonomi India (MUDRA) as of 31 August 2026, highlighting continued efforts to expand financial support for the Indian business community.
Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives YB Encik Steven Sim Chee Keong shared the latest figures during the MAICCI Entrepreneur Summit 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, which brought together entrepreneurs and industry players to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem within the Malaysian Indian community.
- Under MUDRA, a total allocation of RM220 million has been set aside to support Indian entrepreneurs, with RM140 million already approved as of the end of August.
- Meanwhile, the TEKUN Nasional SPUMI scheme has allocated RM120 million this year specifically for Indian entrepreneurs, making it the largest allocation among KUSKOP agencies for this group.
- As of 31 August, SPUMI had disbursed RM64 million to 1,930 Indian entrepreneurs. Of this amount, 61%, nearly RM40 million, went to more than 1,400 new customers, meaning around 72% of SPUMI recipients were receiving financing for the first time.
The figures reflect efforts to widen access to financing, particularly for entrepreneurs who are accessing government-backed business funding for the first time. At the summit, Steven Sim also presented financing cheques to SPUMI recipients, symbolising KUSKOP’s continued efforts to make financing more accessible to the Indian entrepreneurial community.
Several KUSKOP agencies, including Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM), SME Bank, Bank Rakyat, SME Corp. Malaysia, TEKUN Nasional and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), also set up service booths during the summit.
The booths provided entrepreneurs with information on available financing products, business facilities and support programmes, allowing them to explore opportunities to expand their businesses.
KUSKOP reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to financing, guidance and entrepreneurial support, with the aim of helping more Indian entrepreneurs grow their businesses and strengthen their competitiveness.
