Dhanush and Mammootty-starrer OM – Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood will no longer release on October 16, 2026, as originally planned. The upcoming action drama, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, has been postponed after its release date was set just a day after Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, which is scheduled to hit theatres on October 15.
Dhanush announced the decision on social media, explaining that the team chose to move OM’s release out of respect for Rajinikanth.
In his statement, Dhanush acknowledged the challenges involved in shifting a film’s release but said the team wanted to avoid releasing OM immediately after Jailer 2. He also confirmed that the film will not be released during the Deepavali period, as Suriya’s upcoming film Scene had already secured that window. A new release date for OM has yet to be announced.
OM marks Dhanush’s first collaboration with Rajkumar Periasamy following the director’s success with Amaran. The film features an ensemble cast including Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Naseeruddin Shah, with Dhanush also producing the project. Mammootty plays Burma Karthikeyan, a smuggler known as “Siya” by the people around him.
The film is planned as the first instalment of a two-part franchise, with music by Sai Abhyankkar. While the makers have kept much of the plot under wraps, promotional material has hinted at an action-driven story involving money, revolution and powerful characters. Fans will now have to wait for the makers to announce a fresh theatrical release date for OM.
