A sequel to Sarpatta Parambarai was announced over three years ago in April 2023; however, director Pa Ranjith made an official announcement on his socials only yesterday, sharing that part two of the film has finally gone on the floor.
“The origin of Sarpatta Parambarai begins. #SarpattaParambaraiRound2 #SP2” the post read. Arya will be back as Kabilan in the second instalment, who most recently appeared in the political thriller Ananthan Kaadu.
Ranjith, who helmed the first instalment, is all set to resume the directorial reins for the sequel as well. The director recently finished working on Vettuvam — an ambitious sci-fi action-drama headlined also by Arya and co-starring Sobhita Dhulipala — which is eyeing a December 2026 release.
On Monday, Arya took to X to share the official commencement of the film. He shared a poster featuring a rusty boxing ring and a large audience surrounding it.
In an interview last year, Ranjith spoke about what audiences can expect from the film, stating: “I can’t reveal if it is a sequel or a prequel. But the era of the film is interesting. I am planning to make it a political drama. Having said that, the story will also have the elements that people loved in the first part, such as the boxing scenes and other characterisations.”
Set in Chennai in the 1970s, Sarpatta Parambarai centred on a clash between two boxing clans, charting the rise of an underdog boxer played by Arya. As for the second instalment, no details about the plot, storyline or technical crew have been revealed.
