Purattasi is one of the most significant months for many devotees of Lord Vishnu, with the month traditionally associated with Perumal and particularly with Lord Venkateswara. Falling around in September and October, Purattasi is observed through special prayers, temple visits, fasting and other devotional practices. Why Is Entering the Sanctum So Special?

The significance of such access is ultimately shaped by the individual temple’s traditions and practices. Purattasi itself does not mean that devotees can enter the sanctum at every Perumal temple. Where such access is permitted, it is a special arrangement determined by the temple.

One example can be found right here in Malaysia at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Puchong.
The temple has documented a special tradition in which devotees are given the privilege of entering the sanctum on the third Saturday of Purattasi. According to the temple’s records, this opportunity is offered once a year, making it a particularly significant occasion for devotees.
The tradition has also been highlighted in coverage of the temple’s Purattasi celebrations. In 2023, information about the temple’s third Purattasi Saturday stated that devotees would have the privilege of entering the sanctum, with the opportunity described as an annual practice.
For devotees, the opportunity offers a chance to move beyond the usual viewing area and offer prayers in close proximity to Sri Srinivasa Perumal. It is not simply about physically entering the space, but about participating in a rare temple tradition during a month that already holds deep significance for Perumal worship.
A Special Opportunity During a Sacred Month
Purattasi brings thousands of devotees closer to Perumal through fasting, prayers, offerings and temple visits. While the customs differ from one temple and family to another, the central focus remains devotion to Lord Vishnu.
