Sixteen years have passed since Rajinikanth’s film Enthiran first hit the big screens, yet it continues to hold a special place in the hearts of cinema fans. Even today, when someone mentions robots, one of the first characters that comes to mind is Chitti, the iconic robot brought to life by Rajinikanth.
The famous dialogue, “Hi, I’m Chitti. Speed 1 Terahertz, Memory 1 Zettabyte,” has lingered in the minds of fans, especially children, showing how deeply it resonated with audiences.
Directed by S. Shankar, the science-fiction action film was released in 2010 and featured Rajinikanth in a dual role as Dr. Vaseegaran and his humanoid robot creation, Chitti, alongside Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Sana. The film stood out for its ambitious storyline, futuristic concept, visual effects, and large-scale action sequences, offering audiences a cinematic experience that was ahead of its time.

The action in the climax remains one of the most memorable scenes in sci-fi cinema, featuring thousands of robots forming various shapes to combat an entire army, a concept that was truly unexpected.
Beyond its storyline, one of the elements that keeps Enthiran memorable is its music and background score by A.R. Rahman. From Chitti’s introduction to his tremendous transformation, the soundtrack became an integral part of the film’s identity. Even years later, its music continues to evoke memories of the film for fans.

Chitti Inspired Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron
Interestingly, the film’s influence has also been acknowledged by renowned Hollywood filmmaker Joe Russo, who directed major Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. During a promotional visit to India in 2019, Joe Russo revealed that Enthiran inspired a planned sequence for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).

Joe shared that the original concept involved multiple versions of Ultron combining to form a giant figure that the Avengers would fight. Although this sequence was ultimately cut due to time constraints, Joe specifically credited Enthiran as its inspiration.

This revelation provided an intriguing glimpse into how an Indian science-fiction film captured the attention of an international filmmaker. While Enthiran was already celebrated among Tamil cinema audiences, the story of its influence on a planned Hollywood sequence added another dimension to its legacy.
Now, sixteen years on, Chitti remains more than just a fictional robot. From his unforgettable dialogue and distinctive movements to A.R. Rahman’s memorable background score, the character is a significant part of Tamil cinema nostalgia. Some films may fade with time, but Enthiran serves as a reminder of how a compelling story, an iconic character, and its music can leave a lasting impression across generations.
