At just six years old, Cierina Samieshia Christopher is already showing promising potential in Karate, having collected several medals since the beginning of her journey in the martial arts at the age of four.
What started as a childhood interest has gradually grown into a passion for the young karateka, who chose the sport herself after developing an interest in martial arts and self-defence.
Inspired by Her Uncle’s Karate Journey
Cierina’s interest in Karate began when she was just four years old, with her uncle playing an important role in sparking her curiosity about the sport. A karate athlete and master, Cierina’s uncle, Clement, had trophies and medals from his sporting journey, which Cierina grew up seeing.

Her interest in martial arts was further fuelled by watching fighting scenes in movies, which made her increasingly curious about the techniques and movements involved. Rather than being pushed into the sport, Cierina chose karate based on her own interest and passion, particularly because she was drawn to the idea of self-defence and martial arts.
Young Karateka Already Has Several Medals
Despite being only six years old, Cierina has already participated in several karate competitions and achieved an encouraging record of results.
Her achievements include a silver medal at Piala Hari Malaysia, a silver medal at the 3rd Hayashi-Ha National Championship, a gold medal at the SK Junior Cup and another silver medal at the 2nd Hayashi-Ha National Championship.

For Cierina, these competitions have provided more than opportunities to win medals. They have also allowed her to gain valuable experience, build confidence and learn the importance of discipline and sportsmanship from a young age.
Her consistent participation and achievements reflect the dedication she has shown towards training while balancing the demands of being a young child.
Coach Plays Key Role in Her Development
A significant part of Cierina’s progress has been the guidance she receives from her karate master, Marial, at Marial Karate Academy.

Marial brings extensive experience to her training, having previously represented Malaysia as an athlete and achieved titles including Asian Champion and Malaysian National Champion. Under her guidance, Cierina has not only worked on her karate techniques but has also developed qualities such as confidence, determination, discipline and sportsmanship.
Family Proud to See Her Grow Through Sport
For Cierina’s family, her karate journey is about more than the medals she has brought home. They are proud to see how the sport has helped their daughter become more confident, disciplined and determined while giving her an opportunity to discover her abilities from a young age.
Her journey also highlights the important role that families and mentors can play in encouraging children to pursue their interests. With the right support, activities that begin as childhood passions can become meaningful platforms for personal growth and development.
Cierina Looks Ahead to Her Next Competition
Having already built an impressive collection of achievements at such a young age, Cierina is now preparing for another competition expected to take place soon. While the date has yet to be announced, she continues to train and work on improving her skills at Marial Karate Academy.

As she takes on the next stage of her karate journey, Cierina’s story serves as an inspiring example of how passion, discipline, family support and strong mentorship can help young children grow both as athletes and as individuals.
