Concerns have been raised among devotees and the local community following a recent notice by the Klang District and Land Office regarding an alleged encroachment involving government land at the Sri Subramaniam Temple in Port Klang.
Sentosa state assemblyman YB Dr Gunaraj George visited the temple administration to seek clarification on the matter and understand the possible implications for the temple and its devotees.
ECRL Project Linked To Current Concerns
According to the explanation provided by the temple administration, the issue is believed to be linked to the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, particularly infrastructure planned to support freight rail services connecting Northport and Westport.
The proposed railway infrastructure reportedly includes three supporting piers on the left side of the temple, while a section of the elevated railway alignment may pass above part of the temple’s existing buildings.
However, the temple administration clarified that the main temple structures are not currently expected to be demolished or directly affected, based on the information available at this stage.

Technical Details Yet To Be Confirmed
The exact positioning of the proposed railway alignment and supporting structures has yet to be confirmed through the relevant technical plans.
The temple administration is currently engaging with the Ministry of Transport and relevant railway authorities to obtain clearer information on the proposed infrastructure and its potential impact on the temple premises.
Further discussions are expected to provide details on the exact location of the railway alignment and the proposed supporting structures.
Community Urged Not To Panic
Dr Gunaraj said he would also engage with the Klang District Officer to obtain further clarification on the land office notice and the proposed ECRL infrastructure.
He urged devotees and members of the public not to jump to conclusions or become overly concerned before the technical details and official information are fully established.
The temple administration is also understood to be working with the relevant government agencies, including the Klang District and Land Office, to address the matter.

Balancing Development And Heritage
While acknowledging the importance of the ECRL as a major infrastructure project aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s transport and logistics network, Dr Gunaraj stressed that development should also take into consideration places of worship, heritage and the interests of local communities.
He said he would continue monitoring the situation and engaging with the temple administration and relevant authorities to ensure that the community receives clear, accurate and verified information.
The matter remains under discussion, with further clarification expected once the relevant technical plans and information are made available.
