Sadhguru emphasised the need for human and planetary well-being, addressing rising youth suicides and the importance of protecting soil during his engagements in Malaysia. He also led “Soak in the Ecstasy of Enlightenment,” a full-day experiential programme last Sunday in Kuala Lumpur.

Sadhguru, global mystic, yogi, visionary and spiritual guru, addressed a Tamil Mahasatsang at Batu Caves on October 8, bringing together thousands of Tamil people from Malaysia and across the Asia-Pacific region. During his visit to Malaysia, he also addressed a gathering of business leaders and senior executives from global corporations at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur, on October 7, at an event titled “Crafting a Conscious Planet”, highlighting the urgent need to restore soil health and safeguard the future of food.

Speaking at the Mahasatsang, Sadhguru highlighted the growing distress among the youth and the increasing incidence of suicides, urging society to look beyond individual cases and examine the deeper causes behind them.

“When children take their own lives at such a young age, it is not merely about that child. It shows that we, as a society, have not guided ourselves properly and that we have still not understood the fundamental issue behind this. Therefore, it is the responsibility of all of us to understand the reasons behind this and to guide our society towards greater wellbeing,” he said.

At the “Crafting a Conscious Planet” event, Sadhguru turned to another pressing concern affecting the wellbeing of future generations: the rapid degradation of the world’s soils and its implications for food security.

“The UN agencies have clearly stated that we have just another 60 harvests on the planet, which is equivalent to approximately forty to forty-five years. After that, producing food is going to be very challenging,” he said.

Emphasising the consequences of soil degradation for generations yet to be born, Sadhguru urged people to recognise the long-term implications and act before the situation worsens.

“Right now, we are eating up the food of the unborn children. Just know this. We are not eating our food or our children’s food. We are eating the food that belongs to the unborn child. That’s not good. So please act,” he said.

Calling for policy-level intervention, Sadhguru stressed that protecting soil health must become a priority for every nation. He noted that Malaysia, with comparatively lower population pressure, has an opportunity to take decisive action.

“The most important thing is that policy must change in every nation. Policies must be oriented towards the soil health of that nation. And in a country like this, where the population pressure is not very high, it’s much easier to do,” he added.

Sadhguru highlighted that a Malaysia-specific soil policy is available to support the country’s efforts to protect and regenerate its soil. He urged citizens to engage with policymakers and persistently advocate for measures that prioritise soil health.

“We will give you the Malaysian soil policy that we developed about four years ago. Present it to the Prime Minister, Agriculture Minister, Environment Minister,” he added.

The Malaysia-specific soil policy is part of a wider effort under the Save Soil Movement, which has developed soil policies for 192 nations, taking into account their respective terrain, soil conditions, economic circumstances and agricultural practices.

“It took us about 2 – 3 years, and we wrote these policies for 192 nations on the planet. Specific policies, depending on the terrain, the soil conditions, the economic situations, the agricultural practices; based on this, we wrote 192 soil policies,” he said.

Sadhguru noted that 72 to 74 nations have taken up these soil policies, either partially or wholly. While translating policy into action takes time, he noted that the effort is beginning to gain traction at the policy level.

Across the two engagements in Malaysia, Sadhguru emphasised the need for greater responsibility towards both human and planetary wellbeing, from addressing the challenges faced by young people to safeguarding the natural systems that sustain life and food production.

As part of his Malaysia visit, Sadhguru also led “Soak in the Ecstasy of Enlightenment”, a full-day experiential programme on October 11, offering participants an opportunity to explore higher states of consciousness and experience a deeper dimension of life.
