From starting as a backup dancer to becoming a rising face in Malaysian Tamil entertainment, Yuvana Sinnasamy has been steadily making a name for herself. The Malaysian actress, who currently plays an important role in Astro’s Tamil drama series ‘Mounam Pesiyadhe, has come a long way since her early days in the industry.

Before stepping into acting, Yuvana explored her passion through dancing, modeling and content creation. What began as an interest during her school days eventually grew into a career that has seen her take on different roles in television series and films.

From smaller appearances to lead roles in productions such as Maya Macdeline and Kolattam, Yuvana continues to challenge herself while holding onto a bigger dream of making her mark in Kollywood.

From Dancing to Discovering Her Love For Acting

Yuvana’s journey began with her love for dancing and performing. During her school days, she enjoyed fashion shows before exploring modeling, photoshoots and content creation.

She first entered the Malay film industry as a backup dancer before taking on extra roles in drama productions. Her move into Tamil entertainment came through Nadunisi KL, where she initially appeared as an extra before being offered a lead role in another episode. This became a turning point in her career.

“It was through that experience that I began to feel a stronger connection with acting. I realised how much I enjoyed being in front of the camera and that acting was something I could genuinely see myself pursuing professionally. This experience gave me the confidence to believe in my abilities and consider acting not just as an interest but as a long-term career”, said Yuvana.

From there, Yuvana began focusing on improving herself as an actress, turning her passion into a career she wanted to build

Throughout her career, Yuvana has appeared in several Astro and RTM productions, including Maya Macdeline, Neram, Kolattam, Dejavu 375, Manggai Nee and Iravu Vannangal. She has also gained experience through smaller roles including C4 Cinta.

Among these projects, Iravu Vannangal and Maya Macdeline hold a special place in her journey. They taught her the importance of understanding a character’s emotions, expressions, and body language rather than simply memorizing lines.

For Yuvana, every project offers something valuable, regardless of screen time. These experiences have helped her become more confident while reminding her that there is always room to improve.

Mounam Pesiyadhe: Exploring A Different Side of Acting

Yuvana’s latest role in Astro’s Mounam Pesiyadhe has allowed her to explore a character with a slightly negative side. Although challenging, she considers it one of her most meaningful experiences so far.

Rather than judging a character as good or bad, Yuvana believes everyone has a story behind their actions. She approached the role by understanding her character’s emotions while learning from the director and her fellow actors.

Q: You are currently part of Astro’s Tamil series Mounam Pesiyadhe, where your character has a slightly negative shade. What was it like stepping into a role with such a different personality, and how did you prepare to bring the character to life?

A: “For me, every character has its own purpose, and every role deserves to be portrayed with sincerity and conviction. If we only choose to play good characters, who will bring the negative characters to life? Sometimes, audiences remember a villain just as much as they remember the hero. Even a character with only five or ten minutes of screen time can leave a  lasting impression if it is portrayed well.”

The experience has made Mounam Pesiyadhe one of her favourite projects. Grateful to her production team for trusting her with the role, Yuvana believes it has helped her approach acting with greater understanding.

Beyond The Camera, Getting To Know The Real Yuvana

Outside acting, Yuvana describes herself as outgoing, expressive, and energetic. Although she sometimes hesitates to start conversations, she becomes talkative once she feels comfortable.

She is also passionate about sports, having participated in badminton, netball and kabaddi. She enjoys going to the gym, practicing yoga, dancing, and singing. Family is equally important to her and as an animal lover, she has two dogs and several cats at home.

Q: Beyond the characters we see on screen, we’d love to know more about Yuvana as a person. How would you describe yourself outside acting?

A: I would also say that I am curious by nature. I love learning new things, exploring new experiences and discovering more about the world around me. I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds because I believe every person and every experience has something to teach us.”

Beyond acting, she enjoys spending time with loved ones and exploring new interests.

Having started with smaller roles, Yuvana understands the importance of giving young talents a chance. She believes the Malaysian entertainment industry has improved over the years, with more new faces and opportunities emerging.

However, she hopes to see more support for beginners who have the passion but lack experience.

Q: As a Malaysian actress working in the local entertainment industry, how do you feel the opportunities for young talents have changed over the years, and what do you hope to see more of in the industry?

A: “One thing I strongly believe in is that opportunities must come before experience. We often hear people say that an actor needs experience before being considered for a role, but how can someone gain experience without being given the chance to prove themselves? Every established artist was once a beginner. Sometimes, all a new talent needs is one opportunity for someone to recognise their potential.”

Yuvana also hopes experienced artists will share their knowledge with younger talents. She believes proper guidance and fair opportunities can help strengthen the industry, especially as local storytelling and film production continue to improve.

Bigger Dreams And A Future In Kollywood

Although Yuvana has explored several emotional roles, she hopes to challenge herself with different characters in the future.

She is particularly interested in action roles, including police officers, detectives and strong female leads involved in stunts and fight sequences. Comedy is another genre she hopes to explore, as she enjoys making people laugh.

Beyond Malaysia, one of her biggest dreams is to enter the Kollywood industry and take meaningful roles.

Q: Looking ahead, what kind of roles or projects would you love to explore next, and what are some of the dreams or goals you’re currently working towards?

A: One of my biggest career goals is to expand my acting journey into the Indian Tamil film industry, particularly Kollywood. It is something I have been working towards,  and I hope to have opportunities to take on meaningful roles in Indian productions. Although I have been involved in music videos in the past, I would love to explore more substantial acting opportunities, including lead roles and characters that allow me to contribute meaningfully to a story”.

Apart from acting, Yuvana hopes to develop her dancing skills professionally, share her sports knowledge and pursue further studies in media and acting. For now, she remains focused on learning and becoming a more versatile actress.

A Journey That Is Still Being Written

From her beginnings as a backup dancer to becoming a familiar face in Malaysian Tamil entertainment, Yuvana’s journey reflects her passion, patience and willingness to learn.

With Mounam Pesiyadhe marking another step in her career, she continues to explore different characters while working towards bigger dreams, including her hopes of entering Kollywood.

For Yuvana, the journey is far from over. With every new role comes another opportunity to grow, and there is certainly more of her story waiting to unfold.
