Malaysian squash star S. Sivasangari has reached another remarkable milestone in her career, breaking into the world’s top four for the first time. The Professional Squash Association (PSA) Squash Tour celebrated the achievement in a recent social media post, recognising the 27-year-old’s impressive start to the season and her growing presence among the world’s best squash players.
The career-high ranking comes after Sivasangari delivered a remarkable comeback at the CIB Egyptian Open, defeating Egypt’s Fayrouz Aboelkheir in a five-game quarter-final battle, winning 9-11, 4-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7. Despite trailing by two games, the Malaysian showed tremendous fighting spirit to turn the match around and secure her place in the semi-finals. The victory guaranteed her a place among the world’s top four, marking another major achievement in her professional journey.
From Career Challenges to World-Class Success
Sivasangari’s rise to the top has been anything but easy. In 2022, she suffered a serious car accident that left her with neck and spinal injuries, raising concerns about whether she would ever return to competitive squash. However, through determination, rehabilitation and unwavering commitment, she fought her way back to the international stage, proving that setbacks do not have to define a person’s future.
Her achievements since returning have been extraordinary. In September 2026, she successfully defended her women’s singles squash title at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, defeating India’s Anahat Singh in straight games.
Aiming for Olympic Gold at LA28
While reaching World No. 4 is a significant achievement, Sivasangari has her sights set on an even bigger dream: winning Malaysia’s first-ever Olympic gold medal. She has previously expressed her ambition to become World No. 1 and clinch Olympic gold in Los Angeles, making her latest ranking milestone an encouraging step towards that goal.
For Malaysia, the inclusion of squash at LA28 presents a historic opportunity. With Sivasangari and fellow national player Ng Eain Yow both securing Olympic qualification after winning their respective Asian Games singles gold medals, the country has strong reasons to look forward to the sport’s Olympic debut.
A Nation Behind Her Olympic Dream
As the countdown to LA28 continues, Malaysians will be hoping to see her turn years of dedication and sacrifice into an Olympic moment that the nation can celebrate together. With the nation cheering her on, Sivasangari now has the opportunity to chase a dream that could make history for Malaysian sports and inspire the next generation of squash players.
