As Deepavali approaches, community initiatives that bring people together and extend support to those in need continue to reflect the true spirit of the Festival of Lights.
Alumni Hindu Youth Organisation (HYO) Butterworth organised a Deepavali Goodie Bag Distribution Project on the evening of October 17, 2026 at Sri Kalikambal Temple in Prai, Penang to bring festive cheer to recipients and their families ahead of the celebrations.

The programme was officiated by Dato’ Sundarajoo Somu, who expressed his appreciation to the organisers, temple management, volunteers and everyone who contributed towards making the initiative possible.
The Hindu Youth Organisation is a youth-focused organisation that encourages leadership, community involvement and social responsibility. Its alumni in Butterworth continue to demonstrate the importance of community engagement through initiatives that bring people together and extend support to those in need.

In his statement, Dato’ Sundarajoo emphasised that strong communities are built when people look beyond their individual interests and extend a helping hand to others. He also highlighted the valuable contributions of volunteers and community organisations, noting how their time, resources and energy can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
He extended his heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to Alumni Hindu Youth Organisation Butterworth, the management of Sri Kalikambal Temple and all the volunteers involved in making the programme a success.
The initiative serves as a reminder that Deepavali is not only a time for celebration but also an opportunity to practise compassion, generosity and unity. Through community-driven efforts, families can experience greater joy and comfort during the festive season, while strengthening the bonds that bring the community together.
