In the spirit of giving and community support, Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo Somu, the State Assemblyman for Perai (N.16), has distributed 1,200 food aid packages to eligible residents in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration.
The distribution took place at Dewan Serbaguna Chai Leng, Perai, as part of an annual initiative organised by Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo and the N.16 Perai Service Centre. This year marks the third consecutive year of the programme, which continues to reach more members of the local community.

The initiative has seen a steady increase in the number of beneficiaries over the years, with 800 recipients in its first year, followed by 1,000 recipients last year. This year, the number increased to 1,200, reflecting the positive response and growing reach of the programme.
Each recipient received a food package worth approximately RM120, with a total of 1,200 packages distributed to eligible and registered residents. The contribution, made personally by Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo, aims to help families manage their household expenses and prepare for the festive season.

Sharing his experience through a Facebook post, Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo expressed that seeing the smiles and happiness of the recipients made the initiative particularly meaningful. He also shared that many beneficiaries had expressed their appreciation, as the assistance would help ease some of their financial commitments ahead of Deepavali.
As the Perai assemblyman, he reaffirmed his commitment to serving the community and ensuring the well-being of residents regardless of their race or religion.
Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo concluded by extending his Deepavali wishes to the community, hoping that the Festival of Lights would bring happiness, harmony and brighter days to everyone.
