Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is offering a record 1,573,872 seats for its Electric Train Service (ETS) and Ekspres Rakyat Timuran (ERT) services between January and March 2027.
This marks a 39 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2026, when 1.13 million seats were offered. The additional capacity is aimed at accommodating more passengers, particularly during weekends, school holidays and festive seasons.
More Daily Train Services in 2027
To cater to the increasing number of passengers, KTMB will also increase its daily ETS services from 44 in 2026 to 50 services from Monday to Thursday and 58 services from Friday to Sunday.
The JB Sentral–KL Sentral–JB Sentral route will also see an increase from eight to 12 daily services, giving passengers more flexibility when travelling between Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur.
Two New ETS Boarding Stations
KTMB will introduce Old Kuala Lumpur Station and Subang Jaya Station as additional ETS hubs in 2027.
The new stations are expected to provide passengers with more convenient boarding options while helping to reduce congestion at KL Sentral, especially during peak travel periods.
Changes to Long-Distance Train Routes
Passengers travelling on selected long-distance routes should also take note of changes starting January 1, 2027.
Direct train services connecting JB Sentral to Butterworth, JB Sentral to Padang Besar and Butterworth to Segamat will no longer operate as single-train journeys. Passengers travelling along these routes will need to change trains at KL Sentral.
KTMB is also upgrading its booking system to allow passengers to purchase connecting train journeys through a single transaction from December 2026.
When Can Passengers Book Their Tickets?
Passengers planning their trips for the first quarter of 2027 can take note of the following ticket sales dates:
- November 2, 2026, at 12 noon: Ticket sales for January and February 2027 journeys.
- December 1, 2026: Ticket sales for March 2027 journeys.
Tickets can be purchased through the KITS Style application or KTMB’s official website. With increased seat capacity, more frequent services and additional boarding stations, KTMB aims to make train travel more accessible and convenient for passengers across Malaysia in 2027.
