Dhruv Vikram’s first film is not out yet  but he is already a heartthrob among his fans. He attended an interactive session at Dr GR Damodaran College of Science in Coimbatore on Friday, he was welcomed with a thunderous applause and cheers.

The actor struck an instant chord with the students when he began the session saying,

“I am not a big shot and I am only as old as you all. Don’t call me Sir. Call me Dhruv.”

Being the son of one of the most talented actors in the industry, Chiyaan Vikram, it was only natural that Dhruv too, took the acting route. He said right from his childhood, he has always seen his father on screen.

For his shoot for Adithya Varma, his dad was with him throughout the shoot every day. Dhruv had gone to New York to learn acting.

The Hindi version of the film, Kabir Singh, had received flak for being misogynistic. Talking about the criticism he had faced, Dhruv says, “When the teaser of Varma released, there was a lot of disapproval. When people pan your acting, you know what to work on and be a better actor. But, when it is about your appearance and looks, it can be quite demeaning and hard on you. I had grown a beard for the first time ever in my life, for Varma. People said that it looked bad. But, I realised that criticism shouldn’t put you down. After all, everyone is entitled to their opinion.”

Dhruv adds that he had to get into the skin of the complicated character by distancing himself from others. “The makers asked me to smoke and have booze. I don’t do both and it was difficult. My character is that of an impulsive and temperamental guy. It is very easy for a person of his mindset to get involved in other’s lives. So, to get into the skin of the character, I would lock myself up in a room, listen to music and fidget with my phone. The interaction at home became less. I found myself getting angry fast and shouting at others.”

When quizzed about his co-star Banita Sandhu of October fame, Dhruv says, “She can’t speak Tamil or Hindi. So, we had to converse only in English during the shoot. But she has worked very hard and practised her dialogues in Tamil. She is hardworking.”
