Malaysian filmmaker Dr Vimala Perumal has set the bar for Malaysian filmmakers, by bagging yet another international award for her film, Vedigundu Pasangge. This time, the film has won Best Tamil Film – Diaspora at the Norway Tamil Film Festival 2019.
Dr Vimala and her husband, Denes Kumar, who is also the producer and lead actor of Vedigundu Pasangge, were present to receive the award.
The Norway Tamil Film Festival Awards is an annual film festival conducted in Oslo to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Tamil film industry, across the globe.
Dr Vimala was not the only Malaysian to win an award that night. Actor Sangeeta Krishnasamy also bagged the Best Actor Female – Diaspora at the film festival for her role in the same film, Vedigundu Pasangge.
The film also stars Thangamani Velayudan, David Anthony, Alvin Martin, Magen Vikadakavi, Kuben Mahadevan, Seelan Manoharan and Saran Kumar.
Vedigundu Pasangge is the highest grossing Malaysian Tamil film in history with a box office collection of a whopping RM 1.3 million. Produced and distributed by Dr Vimala and Denes’ production house, Veedu Productions, Vedigundu Pasangge has won numerous awards locally and internationally. The film clinched the Special Jury Award at the prestigious Festival Filem Malaysia. Within a short span of time, Dr Vimala won the Best Screenplay Award at the Barcelona Planet Film Festival.
Veedu Productions is currently working on their next project, the Malaysian Tamil film Gajen. The film stars Denes, Jasmin Michael and Abhirami Venkatachalam, and is currently being filmed in Malaysia.
