Basmati Blues is a musical comedy that is bursting with colours, songs, the rich culture of India, and unexpected love between two people from different worlds.
The story follows a young, beautiful and brilliant scientist, Linda Watt (played by Brie Larson), who is sent to India to sell a genetically modified rice she had created. However, Linda is unaware that Mr. Gurgon, the CEO of her company (Mogil), is merely using her to cheat developing farmers out of their land. Linda is supposed to bridge the gap between the farmers and the corporation, and then get the farmers to sign contracts, forcing them to buy rice from Mogil indefinitely.
While all of that is going on, Linda also gradually gets attracted to Ranjit (played by Utkarsh Ambudkar). Ranjit is a rebellious college student who had to drop out due to financial problems. While most of the villagers welcome Linda, Ranjit remains skeptical and questions Linda’s motives. The two eventually fall for each other, despite their differences.
Basmati Blues – a delight from start to finish – features original songs by Pearl Jam, Sugarland, Goldspot, Dave Baerwald, and Sonu Nigam.
