The Malaysian Indian Wedding Photographers and Videographers (MIWPV) will be conducting an exhibition at Namme Veetu Kalyanam, throughout the entire duration of the expo. We catch up with internationally acclaimed Malaysian photographer, and one of the brilliant minds behind MIWPV, Kamalesan, for a chat about the pictures that will be exhibited.
“The photos that will be exhibited are winning images from this year’s MIWPV awards,” The winners of each category will be featured, he says. “We believe that there is so much talent in the Malaysian Indian wedding photography and videography fields that needs to be seen. We just want to showcase that talent to the couples who are about to embark on this life changing journey,”
This is also an excellent opportunity for visitors to see who the photographers are in the industry, Kamalesan says. “Our community’s talent pool is diverse, and you will definitely stumble upon something that you are looking for to eternalise your big day,”
Midlands Convention Centre
The home of Namme Veetu Kalyanam will be one of the most beautiful venues in the Klang Valley, Midlands Convention Centre. This building sits on the land of a Tamil school, SJKT Ladang Midlands. We speak to the venue manager Subalini, who says, “We conduct about 100 events every year. This includes weddings, musical shows, exhibitions and the likes,”
“The good people who built the venue wanted a Tamil school to have its own convention centre, and 25% of the proceeds of the hall rental is channeled back into the school. As a result of this, SJKT Ladang Midlands is the only Tamil school which has completely digitalised classrooms,” she says.
Apart from the plush interiors, Midlands Convention Centre boasts ample parking bays, free of charge. “We have close to 400 parking bays within the compound, with many more outside. Visitors need not worry about looking for a spot when they visit Namme Veetu Kalyanam,”

The venue had a few inquires for other events over the same weekend, but they decided to go with Namme Veetu Kalyanam, Subalini says. “This is a group of young, vibrant people who want to do something that’s new and out of the box. They are moving with the times, and aren’t traditionally inclined, which is what our community needs right now,” she says.
Talk on Hindu Wedding Rituals by Vickneswaran
Vickneswaran has been a wedding photographer for more 11 years now, helming VIP Studios. Over time, his interest drove him to do some digging into the science behind the rituals practiced today. As a reiki healer, Vickneswaran is intrigued by how the positive energy from the rituals can affect the practitioner’s physical and mental well-being.
“There are scientific reasons behind the Hindu wedding rituals, but because these reasons are undocumented and are passed down by word of mouth, the elders often don’t know the science behind it, and it ends up being superstitious,” he says.
“Millenials these days want scientific backing before undertaking any task, and I hope to clear some of their doubts with my talk,” If time permits, Vickneswaran will gladly host a question and answer session after his talk.
