DoP C Prem Kumar turned director with Tamil film 96 starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha. The film, which is a love story, turned out to be one of the top grossing Tamil films of in 2018. Soon after, Telugu producer Dil Raju purchased the remake rights of the Tamil film.
After a year of making, the team released the teaser of Jaanu, the Telugu remake of Tamil flick 96. The filmmaker, who helmed the original, has directed the Telugu version as well. Samantha took to Twitter to share the teaser and wrote, “Friendship, Love, Heart Break, Memories. Revisit nostalgia with #JaanuTeaser! (sic)”
Looking at the one-minute-long teaser, Jaanu seems to be a faithful remake of 96. Right from the frames to the situations, the director hasn’t made any big changes to the film’s script.

Sharwanand is reprising Vijay Sethupathi’s role in the remake. Though he has managed to get his expressions right, his aged look doesn’t really suit him much. Govind Vasantha’s lilting music is once again the soul of Jaanu and it is surprising to see him not retain the songs from 96, which were chartbusters.
Jointly produced by Dil Raju, Sirish and Harshith, the film is slated to release in a couple of months. The technical crew of the film includes cinematographer Mahendran Jayaraju N, music director Govind Vasantha and editor Praveen KL.
