Malaysian NGO Tamilan Uthavum Karangal has already begun their annual Thaipusam ritual by carrying 85 wheelchair-bound devotees up Batu Caves last Sunday.
The organisation founder Dr A Muraly and approximately 250 volunteers carried the wheelchair-bound devotees up the 272 steps up to the Batu Caves temple.
Dr Muraly had this to say about the services of his team, “The organisation will provide the service about three weeks before Thaipusam, to enable the disabled devotees to fulfill their vows and complete their prayers without difficulties”
This year’s service was officiated by V. Ganabati Rao, Selangor State Executive Council member. The event was also graced by P. Prabakaran, Batu Member of Parliament and Ratnavalli Ammaiyar, philanthropist and social worker.
Tamilan Uthavum Karangal has been carrying out the social service since 1998.
Malaysian Tamil radio station Raaga’s radio jockeys Suresh and Ahila joined the NGO to help devotees up Batu Caves in this year’s event.
