As with many Rajinikanth movies, the 1981 drama Netrikann, directed by S.P. Muthuraman with the screenplay from the legendary K. Balachander, is a film that not only received great success during its run but also has withstood the test of time and is still talked about with high regard today.
Dhanush who is an ardent fan of Rajini and is one of Kollywood’s foremost leading actor today, is one of the many who call this movie his favourite and has voiced his interest in adapting this movie for cinema today.
The project, whose original featured Rajinikanth playing a double father-son role, is rumoured to have started rolling, and reports are that Dhanush is looking to bring in past collaborator Keerthy Suresh as part of the cast. They previously starred alongside each other in the 2016 action thriller Thodari.
Interestingly, the part Keerthy Suresh would essay in the movie would be the role played by veteran actor Menaka, Keerthy Suresh’s mother.
Apart from this project in the works, both the actors have a busy schedule ahead of them, being two of the biggest names in the industry.
Dhanush is riding high on the success that the R.S. Duraikumar Senthil directed martial arts film Pattas has brought his new year, adding to his ever-growing star power that reached new peaks with 2019’s smash hit Asuran.
For Keerthy Suresh, 2020 presents her the chance to return to her usual prolific self, with a whopping 6 movies to be released after a quiet 2019. She will next be seen in the Mollywood epic historical film Marakkar: ArabikadalinteSimham, starring alongside many other big industry names such as Mohanlal, Suneil Shetty, and Manju Warrier. In Tamil, she has two releases; the first being Penguin and her second being the Siva helmed mega project starring Rajinikanth called Thalaivar 168 at the moment.
