Do you think you’ve got outstanding photography skills? Then the Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards is ready for your submissions!
Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards, better known as KLPA, is an annual international portrait photography competition, founded in 2009. It is one of the Top 50 photography competitions in the world and is a recommended photo contest to enter for five consecutive years since 2016 by Photoshelter, Format.com and the World Photography Organisation.
The open call for this competition began on the 15th of February and closes on the 30th of April 2020. The shortlisted photos will be announced in June 2020, while the prize winners will be announced the following month. The KLPA awards presentation will be on the 12th of September 2020 at the Ilhan Gallery, Kuala Lumpur. This will be followed by a month long exhibition at the same venue.
This year, KLPA is creating greater opportunities for photographers to win with a higher number of monetary awards, Photo-essay Projects Grants and they’re offering a lower submission fees.
Photographers may submit up to 10 portraits to the single image category As for the Photo-essay Project Grant, 5 photographers will be awarded $1,000 each to allow then to complete their on-going projects and the top 45 finalists including the grantees will have their entries and projects exhibited at the prestigious ILHAM Gallery, Kuala Lumpur in September 2020.
The importance of the portrait in contemporary photography practice hinges upon human interactions, social acceptance and an inclusive notion that we are all part of the human family, despite all our regional, historical, social divisiveness that is often encountered today.
