Malaysian rappers Roshan Jamrock and Balan Kashmir have challenged local radio stations to play local artists’ original music. This comes in light of the cancellation of many gigs and events that have severely affected the livelihood of our artistes.

It all began with Indian rapper ofRO’s Instagram post, calling out Indian radio stations. “Despite the cancellation of gigs and losses, at least musicians can collect a little bit of royalty,” he stated.

Balan’s post challenges local radio stations to play at least 80% Malaysian music.

Shoutout to all Radio Stations 🙏 . Doing all we can for the industry we love in this time of uncertainty! @iamroshanjamrock @rabbit.mac @therukural thank you for this spark 🔥 Tag your favourite radio, the announcers and even management folks to this post and let’s make this happen together. I think it would be awesome to hear my nations music on radio all day, everyday until the quartantine is done while it helps thousands of registered musicians across this beautiful land ❤️ Just a suggestion, my prayers are with everyone and their families, stay home and stay close to your prayers ❤️ @aishahmacp

The rapper’s post has received immense support from his followers and fellow Malaysian musicians.

It is no secret that the Malaysian Tamil and English airwaves are dominated by international artists, with the exception of a few segments that are dedicated to local talent.

Will our radio stations play more local content to support our artistes?
